Mr. A. Vos embarked on his professional journey at the age of 17, working in his father's electric grinding workshop on Krugerplein in Amsterdam. In 1951, he took the entrepreneurial leap and established his own shop, known as "Firma Vos," specializing in instrument sharpening. Initially set up in a modest storefront in Rotterdam, the business gradually evolved.
By 1959, Mr. Vos returned to his hometown of Amsterdam, where Firma Vos transitioned into an instrument-making and sharpening facility, catering to institutions like the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital and the Onze Lieve Vrouwen Gasthuis. Throughout the 1960s, the company expanded its expertise to include the sale of medical instruments alongside its existing services.
The 1980s marked a pivotal period for Firma Vos as it diversified its offerings, becoming a comprehensive provider of medical supplies for general practitioners, midwives, nurses, and medical students. With the eldest and youngest sons of Mr. Vos joining the team in the late 1970s and early 1980s respectively, Firma A. Vos & Sons emerged as the present-day proprietors.
Mid-1980s witnessed further expansion as the company broadened its product range to include nursing supplies. Firma Vos also pioneered the rental network for electric breast pumps, a groundbreaking initiative in the Netherlands.
In 1987, these advancements prompted a relocation to a larger premises at 1e Oosterparkstraat 60-66, solidifying Firma Vos's position as a leading supplier in the industry.
